SKENFRITH CASTLE, MONMOUTHSHIRE

The castle was built beside the River Monnow to command one of the main routes between England and Wales, at a time when the two nations were involved in a long drawn-out conflict following the Norman Conquest. A keep and the curtain wall with towers have survived.
