The valley contains a ‘lost garden’ – the remains of an 18th- and 19th-century landscape park with its chain of five lakes, fringed by woodland pasture. An unfinished Victorian mansion (not NT), is open to the public on specified days from Easter to October. There are waymarked trails (steep and strenuous in places) through delightful scenery.
