ICKWORTH HOUSE, PARK & GARDENS, SUFFOLK
In 1795 the eccentric 4th Earl of Bristol created this equally eccentric house, with its central rotunda and curved corridors, to display his collections. Paintings by Titian, Gainsborough and Velázquez and a magnificent Georgian silver collection are on display. An Italianate garden lies to the south of the house, which is set in a ‘Capability’ Brown park with woodland walks, deer enclosure, vineyard, Georgian summer house, church, canal and lake. What’s new in 2004: Major building programme continues (House visitor route not affected). Access to areas of park & garden may be restricted from time to time.
